As a meteorologist, one of the most interesting things to wake up to is the National Weather Service alarm on my phone. It tells me that a new watch/warning/advisory has been issued for our area.
On days where we are expecting inclement weather, it isn’t “surprising” to me. This morning, it was.
“NWS Issues Winter Storm Watch”
Say what? When I went to bed last night, we were looking at a chance for about an inch with winds at 15 to 25mph… Boy things must’ve changed!
Oh, yeah.
Right now (on average), the models are suggesting another 1″ – 4″ here in town late Sunday and into Monday afternoon. But there are a two (the NAM and the GEM) that are suggesting 3″ to 7″ here in town. And the NAM is suggesting another FOOT to TWO FEET in NW Oklahoma and the eastern Oklahoma panhandle.
Before you kids in Higgins, Canadian, Perryton Beaver and Knowles get too excited, I find it highly unlikely you’ll see another round of snow totaling two feet.
I’m going to lean on the conservative side for snow totals for now. The ingredients are coming together, but they aren’t perfect, yet. I’ll keep us between 1″ to 4″ in Amarillo and between 3″ and 6″ in our NE counties. But that could change.
Of course, as always, I’ll be watching it closely!
