Revisiting the 1895 Gulf Coast Blizzard with Matt Lanza

Matt Lanza, a meteorologist for an energy company in Houston, spent some time earlier this year researching the 1895 Gulf Coast Blizzard. It was a widespread winter weather outbreak across the Gulf Coast region around Valentine’s Day in 1895.

At the National Weather Association Annual Meeting this year, he presented his findings and took attendees all on a walk down memory lane.

Discussing an event that no one in the room remembered.

The retrospective included images of southern towns blanketed in snow, some statistics regarding individual city snowfall totals, and even a newspaper report of the event.

I got the opportunity to chat with him for a few minutes after his presentation, that chat is posted above – with no edits!
