Amarillo feeling summertime heat

For those of you who have been waiting for Summer to arrive, this week will be the first full dose of the “warm stuff” this season.

For those of you who aren’t ready to let go of Spring, I have some good news there, too, we are still holding on to a few rain chances.

For today, very sunny and very warm. Highs will be 5 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. Winds from the southwest will pick up to the “breezy” category at about 10 to 20mph with a few gusts over 25. The wind will also help bump the temps up – in Amarillo, for example, look for an afternoon high to hit 91 degrees.

Tomorrow, more of the same. Winds will shift more southerly. for the central and eastern panhandles. Some of the computer weather models want to break out a shower or two in some of our southeastern counties. As far as “forecasting” storms, I’m going to hold off, but keep in mind a quick thunderstorm isn’t out of the question. the main threats with these storms will be high wind and hail.

Wednesday looks like the best bet for rain in some of our eastern counties as the first of two cold fronts this week push through. Ahead of the front, temperatures will climb into the 90s. In Amarillo, right now, expect a high of 92.

There is a chance for a few thunderstorms Thursday. By Friday, we could be pushing 100 degrees in a handful of spots.
