Storm chasing? Ha! Storm waiting!

On Saturday night, I had a chance to “let the storms come to me” and wait at home for a line to develop west of Amarillo and push through the city.

It turned out to be perfect luck for everyone in town. The line originally had a severe thunderstorm warning for ping pong hail and 60mph winds. But by the time it got to town, just dime-sized hail and 50mph winds.

So, the city dodged the damaging wind and hail and instead picked up between .35″ and .60″ of rain – depending on location.

As a bonus this was quite the electrical storm. Here are two videos I shot with my iphone – apologies for the poor quality – from the back patio of my apartment.
