Storms possible through midweek, then drier: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/23/22

Showers and storms will continue today, tomorrow, Wednesday and into Thursday before we start to dry out as we head toward this upcoming weekend.

Oh, and that tropical riff-raff? It’s inland now. and poses no further threat of development.

That’s not to say it may not reform off the coast of the Carolinas, but as far as we are concerned – nothing but some extra rain today. And even that will be not very “extra” compared to the east side of the cluster.

As this one moves out another system from the Rockies will move into the area.

In fact, if it were March or April we would be talking about a rather potent setup for severe weather. Thankfully it is May – almost June – so the threat for any kind of significant severe weather threat should remain very low.

“Timing is everything!” isn’t that the saying?

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as a system opens up into the Plains, so to will the skies above our heads, allowing for a few days of showers and storms across the area.

It will be another few days of rainfall totals up around 2″ to 4″ by the time it is all said and done. Flooding isn’t a “big” concern at this point as we expect the storms to move through over the course of a few days. But there may be brief localized flash flooding if storms line -up and train over the same areas.

Once that kicks through, though, things should dry out as we head toward the weekend.

  1. I guess we’ll see how it plays out but, normally, being on the western side of the ‘tropical disturbance’, seems like it would limit the precip over here … at least until tonight and tomorrow. VERY thankful for the precip on Saturday … garden was really in need of a drink of water.
