The threat for severe weather has increased a bit for Memorial Day. A “Slight Risk” (a “2” on the 1-to-5 scale where “5” is the highest risk for the most significant severe weather) has been introduced for most of our area.
Rain chances are low on Memorial Day morning, with possible showers and storms in the Pine Belt. Conditions will be generally quiet, with clearing skies and highs in the low 90s by the afternoon. There will also be a front kicking through with a shot to fire up some strong to severe storms – with the potential for damaging winds up to 70 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls.
Notice two shots for rain on the timeline. The best chance is in the morning, but we can’t rule out another round/storms of rain in the evening, too. I wouldn’t cancel any BBQ plans. But make sure you guys have a place to take cover should a storm develop near you.
On top of all of this, heat index values could reach 105-110 degrees, especially south of the I-20 corridor, posing a risk of dangerous heat stress. I wouldn’t be surprised if the NWS posts a Heat Advisory for parts of the area.
That is all for now… Noah will have a better look at the full forecast a bit later today!
