The National Hurricane Center has tagged the open wave in the Atlantic a “Potential Tropical Cyclone 2” which allows the NHC to issue watches / warnings on the system even though it isn’t an organized system yet.
Yup! Still just an open wave.
In fact, the Hurricane Hunters were in there earlier today and found no low-level center of circulation. So, despite the nearly 50mph wind, it is still just a wave.
As of now, this poses no threat to get into the Gulf. But for places along the northern coast of South America and Nicaragua and Honduras, this system needs to be monitored closely.
