Wx and Cars – a south mississippi forecast for August 3 – August 10

After a long week of finding motivation, back pain from work, and worrying about college, it’s nice to sit back, take care of the forecast, and talk with my peers. It’s nice knowing that we all share a love of cars to a degree and we could talk about that for a few minutes while working on the forecast. Personally, I’m a truck guy. I’m not much for lifted trucks with loud exhaust, but growing up with my dad and his old ’88 Silverado taking it on camping trips, taking me to school, and letting me hold the steering wheel while driving one block home years ago has made me want one ever since. At some point when I’m out making my own money and have some spare time on my hands, I’d love to grab an old mid-90’s Silverado or Sierra and work on it with my dad as one of our last projects together. Anyways, enough sentimental stuff, let’s get down to what’s in store for your week.

This weekend, there’s a high pressure system that is moving over us, however there is some leftover gulf influence from the trough that weakens today and a push from the Atlantic of another piece of energy headed our way later in the week. What we’ll see is some more cloudiness on Saturday with a possible chance of rain and thunderstorms, and afterwards from Sunday on our rain chances will diminish as temperatures get warmer until near the end of the week when a weak front comes through.

Short Term Forecast

7 a.m. – Partly cloudy skies with our low of 72 starting to warm up later in the morning

10 a.m. – Increased cloudiness keeping us slightly cool with temperatures in low 80’s

1 p.m. – Partly to mostly cloudy skies in most areas with the chance for rain increasing later in the afternoon with temperatures around 88 degrees

4 p.m. – Most of the rain and thunderstorms will come through right around the early to mid-afternoon, but we can’t rule out any more moving in. High around 91.

7 p.m. – A slight chance for rain, otherwise partly cloudy before sunset. Temperatures in the mid 80’s

Long Term

Sunday – Partly cloudy skies with a low chance for rain as we see the small low pressure system move towards the west. High of 92, low of 73 and winds South at 5-10 mph.

Monday – The low pressure system dies out and we’ll be ridged over with a slim chance of rain. High of 93, low of 73 and winds Southeast at 5-10 mph.

Tuesday – A weak trough moves southward towards us, but doesn’t give us any relief for the heat. High of 94 and a low of 74.

Wednesday – The upper levels want to move through, but the lower levels in the atmosphere don’t want to comply, so we’ll still see partly cloudy skies with a slim chance for rain. High of 93, low of 74 and winds southwest at 5-10 mph.

Thursday – Prepare for clouds! Annnnd maybe a little rain. It’s just a little front passing through. We might see a chance for rain, but otherwise partly to mostly cloudy. High of 91 and a low of 73.

Friday –  Friday is a similar story with some Gulf influence, but partly to mostly cloudy skies and some windy mid-levels. High of 92, low of 72, and winds Northwest at 5-10 mph.

Hope y’all have a great week, and don’t forget to appreciate your car for getting you where you need to go! I know lately I’ve been enjoying my time in mine whether I’ve been rocking out to music or staring down the road just pondering life. Little things like that keep me going and my old car still goes after so long, so I’m thankful for it to still be kicking.
