South Mississippi forecast: 5/3/21

There is a chance for some severe weather during the day on Tuesday as a line of storms drops through the are toward the Gulf. A few areas could see lingering showers still on Wednesday morning.

Beyond that, things will be calm during the next seven days.

Severe Weather Risk

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the area with a Slight Risk for severe weather on Tuesday. That is a “2” on the 1-to-5 scale where “5” is the highest risk for the most significant severe weather.

The main concern is Tuesday afternoon / evening between about 11am and 7pm. Right now, it looks like the main concern will be heavy rain, frequent lightning (some of these storms may be VERY electric), wind gusts up to 6mph, and hail up the size of golf balls, and the potential for a brief tornado.

Flooding Risk

The risk for flooding is going to be pretty low, but not zero. Localized flash flooding is a concern for some area to pick up a few inches of rain in a short amount of time. That means water may come up in the ditches and run high in some of the streams.

That said, extreme river flooding and widespread neighborhood-inundating flooding is less likely.
