South Mississippi Forecast 6/24/21

Some very humid air is settling in across the area and that will give a bump to general rain chances over the next seven days. The extra humidity was not something that I saw in the forecast a few days ago. So while the overall pattern is shifting toward a pattern that is “drier,” the extra humidity and moisture in the air will actually make storms more likely on any one given afternoon.

And if a storm develops, given the extra moisture in the air, said storm will be able to drop that much more rain.

On top of that, there are a few areas in the tropics worth watching.

So far, the National Hurricane Center is only monitoring two of the areas – one near the Greater and Lesser Antilles and the other coming off the coast of Africa. But the third one deep in the Caribbean may eventually sneak into the southern Gulf and be worth monitoring.

  1. Isn’t that a little early in the season … a system coming off the coast of Africa and making it all the way across and into the Gulf? Seems like, usually, you don’t see that until later in the season, around August or September. Seems that everyone keeps calling these ‘Summertime showers’. Whenever it gets above 20 or 30 percent, it is something else causing it, not Summertime.
