Welcome to September, everyone. Technically we are in “meteorological autumn” at this point, but it sure won’t feel like fall outside quite yet.
That said, a backdoor front will try to sneak toward the Gulf later this week and usher is some semi-drier air. It will put a lid on the atmosphere for a few days, and peel back the chance for rain to basically zero for a few days – mainly Friday and Saturday – before the Gulf moisture surges back northward.
You’ll probably hear a lot about this front on the news in the coming days. And you will probably see a lot of posts on social media by multiple meteorologists talking about “Here comes some drier air!” And I know we are all excited. But just don’t get used to it.
On the left, above, you can see that Friday at 6am, the lighter greens and whites are sneaking south. But by Sunday morning, on the right, the blues and purple have moved back north.
It does look like the atmosphere takes another shot at this on Tuesday of next week.
But I’m not holding my breath yet.
Also, do know that “a bit drier” can mean “slightly cooler” in the mornings, too. It looks like low temperatures will get back down into the upper 60s for some folks Friday and Saturday morning. And if you’re really lucky, you may squeak out the mid 60s.
But again, sadly, this first round of “a bit drier” and “slightly cooler” won’t least very long. So soak it up if you get it!
