Southern MS / AL / LA weather forecast 9/17/21

I’m starting to think the cold front that is set to enter the region next week around Wednesday may be the actual ‘first fall cold front’ of the year. Before you get too excited, though, there is still some question about how far south it makes it.

And we have a Typhoon in the PAcific to thank. Sort of.

As Chanthu wraps around the Pacific, it will help inject some extra energy into the Jet Stream and help to crack open the door for cooler air to ooze south. And it may also help for it to ooze south and stick around for an extra day or two.

But there is still some question about the intensity of the cooldown, how much Chanthu will interact in the atmosphere, and how pronounced the ‘ride’ will be from Japan to Oregon.

But I’ve got to tell you, the evidence is starting to pile up that suggests this one may be the “Summer Buster” we’ve all been waiting for. Will it get warm after this one again? Probably. But will it ‘feel’ like Summertime heat? Probably not.

And I know there was a front last week that gave the area some cooler mornings. And even tempered the afternoon highs and the humidity. We went from seeing highs around 91-93 to highs around 87. And that was nice.

But this would be a real cold front. That would knock highs – with sunshine – back to around 80. Overnight lows could be back into the low 50s.

Cold. Front.

And the effects should last a few days, before temperatures rebound again back to average.

Extended Outlook

Late next week after the front passes, temperatures will cool back into the upper 70s and low 80s for highs for a few days. Perhaps only through the weekend. But next weekend is looking rather nice. After that point, temperatures may rebound for a few days back to around 85-90.

There is a chance that the area gets pretty warm again as some anomalously warm air from the Southern Plains gets shoved to the east ahead of another cold front set to move into the region around October 1st.
