Dangerous heat blankets the coast Friday before giving way to daily chances of showers and thunderstorms: Coastal LA/MS/AL Weather Forecast – 6/24/22

Those lucky enough this week may see some short-term relief with scattered showers and thunderstorms, otherwise high temperatures will continue to blanket the area on Friday. Heat indices look to reach up to 110°F Friday for much of the area. By this weekend, some relief may arrive for some as scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop along a stalled front draped across the coast before more numerous rain chances appear ahead of the arrival of a cold front early next week.

Heat continues to grip the coast with an iron fist today and tomorrow, as this ridge of high pressure continues to sit over the southern US. Several places may see heat indices of 105 to potentially 110°F. As such, a large portion of the Gulf coast is under either a Heat Advisory or Excessive Heat Warning.

This in mind though, some areas may see at least short-term relief from the heat, as daily chances for showers and thunderstorms are present. A surface low presently over southern Georgia will start to make its way westward along the back side of the dome of high pressure, helping to spur storm development this weekend.

Rain chances will increase further beginning early next week, as a cold front associated with an ejecting upper-level low in Canada moves in from the north. Storms are expected to stay below severe limits currently at this moment, but heavy rainfall may be possible.

Temperatures are also expected to take a bit of a drop after the arrival of the front. While not as scorching hot like this past week has been, temperatures beginning next week look to be in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
