Dangerous Heat to Continue through Thursday: Southeast Weather Forecast – 7/26/2022

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

Across the Southeast, the weather will remain relatively unchanged for the next three days – with hot temperatures expected to continue through Thursday. In addition to these above-average temperatures, small chances for precipitation, especially away from the Gulf Coast, will not provide any relief to the heat.

The current position of the 500mb high pressure is around the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, as denoted by the anticyclonic wind flow present in the Southern Plains. At the surface, some ridging is extending westward from a high pressure located off the Southeast coast.

Through Thursday

As I had mentioned before, the pattern will remain relatively unchanged for the next few days, with above-average temperatures expected across most of the Southeast. In fact, heat advisories and excessive heat warnings have been posted for the area due to heat indices exceeding 110F at times.

For Today, temperatures are expected to be the warmest this week, with highs exceeding 100F for much of eastern Texas, and portions of Arkansas and Louisiana. Elsewhere, high temperatures well into the 90s are likely, aside from the Gulf Coast, where temperatures should run a tad cooler.

The story is much the same for Wednesday and Thursday, and no significant change in the weather is expected for the region until Friday, when an approaching cold front will bring cooler air and an increased risk for showers and thunderstorms. This boundary will likely stick around through the weekend, helping to enhance the chances for rain until at least early next week.

That being said, precipitation should remain fairly scattered through Thursday, as the rain should come from localized showers and thunderstorms.
