Still hot, some relief coming tonight while we continue to monitor Invest 98L: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 9/22/22

Another rather warm day on tap for the area. The good news is this should be the last day of a Feels Like temperature near 100F. The bad news is that it’ll still be rather warm for Friday Night Football tomorrow night with a Feels Like temperatures around 90F in the afternoon and in the 80s at kick.

Here is a look at afternoon temperatures across the area. Most folks will tag at least 95F on the thermometer at one point or another.

And I know I say this a lot but, hey, heat beats hurricanes. I’ll live with 100F every day if it means no hurricanes.

And speaking of the tropics, the Hurricane Hunters mentioned yesterday in a release that they planned to fly through Invest 98L last night. I can’t find any info on the flight, but I have to assume it happened. That means this morning’s guidance (both the 6z stuff out now and the 12z stuff to come later) will be more accurate than recent model guidance.

It also means we a semi-meaningful shift in the forecast track. But remember we will have one more “shift” when this thing finally wraps itself up and gets organized AND the Hurricane Hunters fly through it.

So if you see scary model data today, that is slightly more accurate than yesterday, but still doesn’t mean much compared to the data we are waiting to get once this thing is organized and has an official center.

  1. Thank you so much for always explaining that conjecture isn’t fact. We appreciate your good sense (and science!) from South MS.
