The dry weather continues. As I noted last night (click here, in case you missed it!) there doesn’t look to be a “good” chance for rain for at least another three weeks. We will have a shot late next week, but for now we are simply dry.
And warm. Highs today will be in the mid 80s.
And no rain. Instead, now we have to worry about drought and the potential for Fire Weather conditions as the next front passes on Friday and into Saturday.
Right now it looks like the strongest wind will be overnight, with sustained wind between 10mph and 15mph with gusts up to 25mph, but some of the breeze will likely linger through the day on Saturday. Gusty north wind, and relative humidity values down around 25-percent, spells Fire Weather concerns for the southern MS/AL/LA region.
That means as much as the weather may ‘feel’ perfect for an outdoor bonfire on Saturday, it will be the most dangerous time to have said bonfire. Instead, if you can put it off until the humidity comes back up and the wind dies down, that would be best.
That won’t likely happen this weekend. By Sunday, the wildfire concerns should ease back a bit. But not completely. Relative humidity values will still be hovering in the 20- to 30-percent range in the afternoon.
This drier afternoon air with a northerly wind is going to hold all the way through Wednesday of next week. Finally be Thursday, it looks like the wind will flip back to the south and things will moisten back up, just in time for the next cold front to arrive with the next chance for some rain.
