Alrighty, friends. Not only did we get rain yesterday, but it also looks like the first real, actual, here comes fall and cooler weather Cold Front is set to arrive next week.
A lot of folks celebrate the “first fall cold front” as the one that knocks temps from the mid 90s into the upper 80s. And that’s fine. I like that one, too. But I often wait for the real one. The one that knocks us from the mid 80s into the low 70s.
The one that makes maps that look like this:
The map above shows the temperature anomalies for next Tuesday through next Saturday. And as we look out into next week, I have data that supports highs in the 60s and lows in the – GULP! – 30s!
Now, that said, I don’t know that I believe that yet. The 30s? It is a bit early for 30s. And the pattern preceding it in Canada isn’t one to pool much cold air. But hey, there is some data to support it. And that says something.
Model guidance shows the air is going to be imported directly from Alaska and the Arctic Circle. It’ll plow across Canada and push into the southeast. It will be heavily modified before it gets here because most of Canada has been warmer-than-normal recently, so has most of the Northern Plains of the US, too. But hey, it definitely won’t be Gulf of Mexico air!
Along the leading edge of that cooler air, we may have another shot for rain and storms, too. Depending on how things line up, it may feature a low-end risk for severe storms, but nothing is yelling ‘severe’ at this point.
And until then it’ll be dry and calm. But get ready for sweata weatha!
