Some drizzle overnight, maybe more rain this weekend, otherwise dry and nice: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 11/1/22

I’m not sure I believe the forecast data this morning from some of the model guidance, but… here we go!

Some fog this morning will be patchy, so if you head out the door and it isn’t foggy, you may still run into some on the way to work or school. Nothing terribly dense, but it’ll be out there.

As we move through the day, the clouds will increase and there may even be some patchy drizzle. The best chance for rain arrives overnight. That is when the mass of rain that is over Texas (it is raining on my in Houston right now) shifts toward Southern MS/AL/LA.

As it does so, it will run into some dry air and likely fall apart. But! It does look like there will be juuuust enough laft to offer some drizzle overnight to some spots.

HRRR model guidance shows patchy drizzle possible with Omega in the saturated layer of the atmosphere

This would be another example of, “In January… this would make for far different weather” but instead of severe weather like this past weekend, this type of situation is often what gives us snow flurries.

Instead, this time, it’ll be far too warm (with temperatures in the 50s and 60s) and we will see some spotty drizzle. Just enough to dampen some gardens and grass, but not enough to be meaningful. You may also have to hit the windshield wipers a few times in the morning. But once we get past sunrise, the sun will come back out and things will be dry again

Then things get a bit more interesting as we move toward the weekend. The next system is set to push through the area. But then it doesn’t.

It stops. And falls apart.

That means most of Louisiana sees rainfall, while Mississippi and Alabama stay dry.

Not sure how much I believe that quite yet. The cold front looks reasonably robust on Friday and then by Saturday it’s gone. And it isn’t gone because it moves east and falls apart, it stalls and falls apart. It has happened before, sure, but man…. not often. So it is tough to trust the data right now.

Sot hat is one thing to watch as we head through the week and toward the weekend. If it holds together, we could be talking about storms. If not, it will barely even rain.
