If you caught the forecast from last night, you know that Hurricane Tammy is going to play a role – semi-directly – in just how cold we get as we move through next week. Here is a look at yesterday vs. today, below.
Yesterday it had a well-defined eye and was being vented to the northeast, fostering its growth. This morning a front sliced underneath it and ripped it apart.
So now we wait for part of it to drift around and into the Gulf where it will erode away at our subtropical ridge helping us cool down a bit. Until that point, though, things will remain warm and dry.
Today, tomorrow and through the weekend look for highs in the 80s with mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows will be around 60. No real chance for rain. But it will be a pretty nice weekend, all things considered.
By late Saturday the weather maps that are animating above mostly show the same thing – a remnant piece of Tammy near Florida, ready to break down our ridge and a longwave trough stretching from Canada back to California.
As we move into Monday, that is when things start to change a bit. That is when the first ‘changing of the guard’ occurs with the wind flipping back around to the north. This isn’t the cold front you are looking for, but it is one that will help to pull back on the humidity a bit.
I will say, though, that this first front will be a slow mover. We will be sitting under a southwest flow aloft, so there won’t be much southward momentum with the front itself. So there is a chance that some folks (closer to the coast, in particular) hold on to a southerly breeze a bit longer.
Look for highs on Monday around 75F. And once the front passes through your area, things should start to cool down and the wind will flip back to the north.
There won’t by any rain along the front itself, but we may see some post-frontal showers develop as we move through Tuesday morning. These will be sprinkles or light drizzle, at best, but hey… it is something!
A second shot of cooler air arrives on Tuesday, just in time for Trick-or-Treating. Behind this, things really cool down. Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid 60s. That means the kiddos will be marching around in the mid to upper 50s – at best. By Wednesday, highs will top out around 60F. Overnight lows both nights will be around 40F.
There is a chance that a few folks, closer to I-20 end up with a chance for a frost by Wednesday morning, but I’m still not sold on the prospects quite yet.
By Thursday morning, same goes, we start around 40 and then rebound back to around 65F. Still no rain, sadly.
