After a calm week of weather leading up to Christmas, it looks like we may get a double-decker system moving through for the weekend and into next week.
The Good News: Plenty of clear skies and seasonably chilly temperatures the next few days to get out and enjoy the weather. Perfect for an evening walk or drive to check out all of the lights!
The Bad News: If you are traveling this weekend to grandma’s house, get ready to use the windshield wipers.
Tonight, tomorrow and through Thursday, the weather should be calm and chilly.
The northerly flow will help to keep things dry and cooler, but that will come to an end as we move through the day on Thursday and into Friday. The northerly flow will flip around the southwest and then to the south. That southerly flow will warm things back up and reintroduce Gulf of Mexico moisture, too.
And you know what that means: Another shot for some rain.
As we move through Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday we will have a shot for showers. Some days better than others, but I think each day will have a chance for at least some sort of rainfall.
Model guidance is still a bit split on things in terms of timing and amounts, but both the Euro (shown below) and the GFS computer weather model think that each day will have some sort of chance for rain.
Severe weather doesn’t appear to be in the cards. While I don’t think we can completely rule it out for everywhere, if it does happen it would be near and south of I-10. Elsewhere, just regular rain. And rainfall totals by the time things are all said and done will be between 1/4″ and about 2″ of rainfall. So not a ton of water, but still helpful in replenishing many of the local ponds and streams.
Beyond that, things dry out Tuesday with another shot for rain possible by Wednesday and into Thursday.
