Heat and Humidity, the Usual Suspect this Weekend, A Quick Storm to Start the Week – Weekend Outlook 5/25/24

We’re no stranger to the heat and humidity that starts up this time of year as the active weather slows down. Temperatures will reach the low 90s with a few clouds popping up during the afternoon into the evening. Sunday won’t look too different with temperatures only dropping to the mid-70s overnight and the mid 90s during the day. Heat indices will reach the mid to upper 90s with some cumulus clouds and an isolated storm or two.

Overnight into Monday, there is a stalling low pressure system to our north in the Ohio River Valley that will dump a ton of rain in areas of the Heartland. We’ll get a bit of that rain as the cold front moves through in the early morning. Areas of north and central Mississippi are under a slight and marginal risk for severe thunderstorms including lightning, hail, and wind gusts up to 60 mph. Most of the storms look to dissipate over areas of the Pinebelt due to an eastern Gulf ridge, but we’ll see some of that rain and maybe even some gusty winds and lightning in the early morning hours.

After this MCS passes, the cold front will take its sweet time moving out of the Deep South which means another sweltering day for us on Memorial Day. We’ll see highs in the mid 90s with heat indices reaching the upper 90s to even 100 for areas between the Louisiana/Mississippi border. In the nighttime, we’ll see winds shift east as the cold front moves out and the Canadian Shield high begins to preside over us. This will keep us dry and keep the heat index down as we go later into the week, but I’ll give you the weekly rundown… tomorrow!
