Quick break from the heat, with multiple chances of showers & thunderstorms this weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 5/30/24

Some of us this afternoon were dealing with showers and thunderstorms, however, that threat will continue to decrease as the evening continues. There might be a stray shower overnight, but overall, it will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

On Friday, a stalled front will shift northward from the Gulf Coast, bringing moist and unstable air. This could lead to more showers and thunderstorms, especially in the ArkLaMiss region. There’s a chance for severe weather with the primary hazard being damaging winds, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Higher rainfall totals will be across northern Louisiana where over an inch of rain is likely.

For Friday night, an area of low pressure will move from the central Plains to the mid-Mississippi valley, helping to increase our rain chances on Saturday. The low will move northeast, but a stalled front will keep the threat of severe storms, especially in the afternoon and evening on Saturday. This stalled front could lead to localized flash flooding, especially in northern Louisiana with 2-3 inches of rain possible this weekend. Central to southern Mississippi could exceed an inch of rain while the rest of us will likely have to settle with totals between 0.5″- 1″. There is still some uncertainty with the models, so continue to check the latest forecast posted here.

Saturday looks to offer the best chance of rain for our area

Enjoy the 80s while you can because temperatures are forecasted to return to near 90 by the beginning of next week.
