A Cool and Sunny Pre-Christmas Weekend – Weekend Forecast for South MS/LA/AL 12/21/24

If you’re out shopping this weekend, bring your jacket and toboggan because it’ll still be fairly chilly outside, mainly today. The north winds we experienced yesterday will still be prevalent today keeping things crisp outside. Overnight, we’ll reach the freezing mark with temperatures in the upper 20s, so if you have any plants that don’t handle the frost well, I would cover them up tonight.

The strongest winds from the upper levels will move towards the east which will help with warming us up slightly during the day tomorrow. With the northwestern winds, the clouds will still be at bay and we’ll have another sunny day ahead. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 50s and the winds will shift to the east northeast around 5 to 10 mph. Overnight, we’ll reach the low 30s, so expect some more frost on the ground Monday morning.

As a low pressure system at the surface moves towards the western Great Lakes, the high in the Atlantic (above) will move further east shifting the winds from East Northeast to East Southeast and eventually Southeast. With more of the Gulf inflow, temperatures will warm up to the low 60s across much of the coastal South. We’ll be much milder on Monday (aka Christmas Eve eve) which is also an indicator of what’s to come in the next couple days, and that likely means a wet Christmas, so have your presents covered if you’re taking them to your loved ones’ house.
