We have a chance for a few showers and storms today and tomorrow. It isn’t a “big” chance, but it is definitely there. Probably not enough to help with the drought, but hey we will take the rain!
Speaking of the drought, here is a look at the latest maps:
Louisiana has the worst of the drought, regionally. With southern Mississippi in second and Alabama looking markedly better.
Looking at the rainfall estimates from the model guidance during the next 10 days, things don’t look great. the ECMWF model shows a donut hole over Mississippi and Louisiana.
While I think the area will see more than “nothing” I don’t think it will be much more than “nothing” by the time we get toward the end of the month.

I’ve been told (by one of your former co-workers) that October is, historically, our (south MS) driest month of the year. Do you think that will still hold true this year?
Yeah, I do. Historically, short of a tropical system, things are mighty dry around here in October. Our average precip is about 3.7″ and the last three El Nino Octobers we have seen 1.5″ (2014), 6.4″ (2015), 2.5″ (2018). The 2015 number is probably skewed a bit because in a two-day period, we picked up 5.5″ of rain. So, yeah, in a word, dry!
