A Frosty and Cool Weekend with a Warm Spike Next Week

With cooler than average temperatures permeating the South over the week, the severe weather was fairly limited in strength yesterday. This was definitely good news for us after what seemed to be weekly severe weather threats back to back. While the SPC has the severe weather late next week closer to the North Texas/Southern Oklahoma area, we’ll still see some thunderstorms by the time it reaches us. Not only that, but another front is moving through behind the main front which could possibly wash out the latter part of the weekend. For now, we’ll have to wait on model guidance to agree on how far north the second front may go.

This weekend into the middle part of next week will be much cooler for early Spring. How cool? Freezing! No, not kidding! The National Weather service has put out a Freeze Warning for the northern Pinebelt and a Freeze Watch for the southern Pinebelt down to the Coast. If you have any frost-sensitive plants that need to be covered, I would take care of that today and make sure they’re covered for the next couple of days.

The beginning of next week will be less gloomy than this weekend with the sun peaking back out and temperatures averaging in the 60’s during the day. However, with the high pressure zone moving out as we prepare for the next storm system, the wind will shift back to the South and bring in much warmer weather from Wednesday onward into the weekend.

Another front forming over the weekend. Severe, maybe? We’ll have to wait and see. Image courtesy of Pivotal Weather.
