This was my face on Saturday.
I am slightly bragging, but it feels good when you nail your forecast. On Friday, I called for a 40% chance of rain to hit us on Saturday. While at my Grandma’s birthday party with all the family, my relatives were telling me it wasn’t supposed to rain that day, and I informed them that I said there was a good chance of rain in the afternoon. Lo and behold, around 4 o’clock the rain starts pouring down for a good 15-30 minutes out at my location and other areas around Hattiesburg (judging by the wet ground on my way home). I was excited and proud that I got my forecast right, and I’m also glad to know that I’m starting to get better at making these forecasts overall. I’m also glad to have y’all as witnesses and I’m thankful for y’all reading these forecasts because I really do put in the time and effort to be as accurate as I can. I’m pretty detail oriented and I love to learn, and Nick has been a great teacher for me over this summer. Well, enough rambling, onto the forecast!
The story of the week for the upcoming rain during the weekend is a low pressure system dipping just far enough to affect us. The low pressure will centralize near the Great Lakes region by the weekend leaving us with West winds in the upper levels and Southwest winds near the surface, which means we’ll get a little bit of lower Gulf influence to make some rain. For the first part of our week, we’re leftover with the ridge for the first few days, so expect hot weather with only a few pop-up showers.

Short Term Forecast
Tuesday is going to be your typical Mississippi summer day with a few clouds in the sky and a very slight chance of a localized rain shower. Southwest winds all day at 5-10 mph.
7 am – Fair skies with a few intermittent clouds and we’ll start warming up from a low of 73.
10 am – More clouds roll in from the upper and lower levels while we warm up into the mid-80’s
1 pm – If there are any rain showers developing, we’ll see the cumulus clouds start to pile up like a jar of cotton balls. If not, then mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.
4 pm – Any rain showers will probably be dumped out by this point and you’ll feel that muggy feeling as the steam comes off the pavement. Otherwise, it’ll be hot during the peak hour as usual. High of 93.
7 pm – As the sun goes down, we’ll head back into the mid 80’s and you can see some of the leftover anvil and cumulus clouds that weren’t able to rain on us.
Long Term
Wednesday – we’ll see about the same day as Tuesday with a small chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm, but otherwise mostly sunny skies with a high of 93 and a low of 74. Winds south at 5-10 mph.
Thursday – Same deal, different day. High of 92 and a low of 74. Winds Southwest at 5-10 mph.
Friday – This is when we’ll see a better chance for rain. Clouds will start developing in the morning keeping us slightly cooler, but that’s only the premonition for a chance of rain. high of 90 and a low of 73. Winds West Southwest at 5-10 mph.
Saturday – The front will keep passing through, but we’ll likely see the rain come through during the midday and some leftover clouds afterwards leaving it muggy. High of 89 and a low of 72.
Sunday – the front is centralized over the Great Lakes, however we’ll see the last bit of that front come through, but we’ll be slightly warmer with a chance for afternoon rain. High of 91 and a low of 72.
Monday – Most likely not a chance of rain as the front has passed and the heat comes back. High of 93 and a low of 73. Winds West at 5-10 mph.
Y’all have a good week and stay hydrated and cool!
