A Pleasant Start to the Weekend with Rain Showers and Cooler Conditions on the Way – South MS Forecast 11/25-27

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed the cool weather to accompany it! Thanksgiving weekend will continue the trend with pleasant conditions today and rain on Sunday.

While looking at one of the cable weather channels yesterday, I noticed the low pressure system (pictured above over Missouri) was dumping a lot of snow over most of the Great Plains yesterday and will be bringing mixed precipitation and snow into the Great Lakes region today. This same system won’t bring any weather like that to the Deep South, but all the same it’s interesting to see what a strong enough system will do.

Accompanied with the low in the Midwest is a cold front that will bring the rain to Mississippi tonight into tomorrow. Another subtropical low from eastern Texas will provide enough moisture from the Gulf to impact how much rain that areas of South Mississippi will receive. The line from the cold front to the west is fairly organized, however, the Gulf low will provide a little extra feed to cause areas closer to the coast and further inland to get a little extra rain compared to areas up north.

The good news is that there isn’t any severe weather associated with this front. Looking at the Skew-T’s, there was no instability with the incoming rain and dewpoints were around the 50s, which is a good indicator that there won’t be much going on. Most of the thunderstorms will happen towards the extreme southern portion of Louisiana. This will likely just be a cold, cloudy, fall rain type of day, so get cozy and let the rain go by during the day. The rain will likely last most of the day with the clouds to remain into the evening with rainfall totals around half to three quarters of an inch. Temperatures will stay around the 50s during the day but drop into the 40s overnight.

With the cold front having passed by Monday, expect colder, drier and windier conditions all throughout the day. Temperatures will reach the 50s, but winds will likely cut through that with wind gusts possible during the day. With the Canadian air moving towards us, temperatures may likely hit the freezing mark overnight into Tuesday.
