A short dry stretch before more rain this weekend: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 12/14/21

The pattern is pretty well locked in for the next 5 to 10 days. High pressure will keep any rain away from the area today and through Friday. Then Saturday another front is set to move through the region. Then, more high pressure and sunshine after that front kicks out.

The patterns is actually less active than typical wintertime patterns for the Gulf Coast. Generally, there is a system that moves through every 3 to 6 days and right now, systems are moving through about ever 5 to 8 days. Not a big difference, but noticeable.

And I don’t know too many people that are going to complain about some extra dry weather after the very – very! – damp last 48 months. In fact! Looking back through 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018 the only year we didn’t have – generally – above-average rainfall was 2020.

And that year we had a monster Hurricane Season and one of the most active severe weather seasons the region has ever seen. And we are so far ahead this year that we are likely going to see a handful of spots around the region nail Top 5 wettest year records.

So a few extra dry days is probably welcomed.

We won’t stay dry forever, though, as more rain move into the area on Saturday as a front kicks through the area. That said, it may not make it far and we may end up with multiple rounds of rain from teh same front over the next few days.

Severe weather doesn’t look at likely this go-around, but it is something we will monitor, for sure.
