Clouds and rain this morning may feature a few rumbles of thunder but there is a pretty stout inversion set up, so severe weather is very unlikely. We should start to clear out as we head through the day with some patchy drizzle here and there before we truly break back into some sunshine. The active weather pattern persists as we have hit and miss chances for rain through the morning today, the day tomorrow, and Friday, too.
By Friday night the next system is set to push through the area with a line of storms. Most of the rain won’t arrive until early Saturday AM, but we are still hammering down the specific timeline.
The atmosphere is still looking capable of producing and sustaining severe weather as the line passes through the area.
The CIPS Analogs is showing a large area of potential severe weather in historically similar events. So this next system is on many folks’ radar.
As I pointed out on Twitter this morning, thankfully, model guidance shows a system that doesn’t historically produce significant tornadoes.
So while, yes, severe weather is possible, this looks like mainly a rain and wind even for most spots rather than a “tornado outbreak” like some other folks have been saying.
And, in fact, the SPC is in line suggesting that, sure there is a Slight Risk for severe storms, but the highest risk lies along the Mississippi River to the north.
Beyond this system things cool down a bit for a few days and settle down.
