Afternoon storms the next few days, then drier next week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 6/8/23

Showers and storms should be a bit more sparse today. But they will likely fire up across the same areas as yesterday – give or take. Looking at some of the low-level convergence, focring and instability maps, I’d say the best bet for storms this afternoon is in the yellow circled area.

Any storms that do develop today will feature brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty wind. The tornado threat is almost zero, but not quite (it is the central Gulf Coast after all).

Tomorrow, I think there will be a slightly better shot for storms in the afternoon as a weak front tries to sneak into the region. Again, technical severe weather isn’t likely, but storms may have the obligatory brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty wind. I don’t think we can rule out some small hail tomorrow, too.

Then on Saturday I think we have another shot for afternoon storms. I’m watching this one closely as the USM baseball game will start around 2p. In fact, here is a look at the forecast for the game:

Things calm down a bit on Sunday and storms look more sparse and that should hold as we move through the first half of next week.
