Get the sunscreen out, the fans ready and put the A/C on stand-by. Amarillo will be – almost – hot this afternoon. The thermometer will climb easily into the 80s and perhaps a few back yards could be kissing 90 degrees before it’s all said and done.
Now, some of the latest computer weather models have shown a more modest warm up for today, but I still think it’ll be easier for Amarillo to peg 90-degrees rather than 80-degrees.
For tomorrow the warm up ends. Abruptly. An increase in cloud cover and winds shifting from southwest to northeast will knock temps back into the 60s. The official forecast is for 68 degrees… but it might be even cooler than that.
In fact, a few spotty showers might be experienced across the Oklahoma panhandle and northern Texas panhandle overnight Saturday and into Sunday.
A few weak systems will push through, mixed with a weak boundary layer will really make it tough to forecast high temperatures Saturday, Sunday and into Monday. Amarillo will be sitting “on the fence” as it were, and highs could really go either way.
As we look down the road, Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday are looking more interesting next week. Some indications are that a chance for thunderstorms and – sit down for this one – snow will return to the high plains.
As it looks right now, no severe weather is expected.
