Amarillo rain chances increase

If you live across the high plains and enjoy clouds, rain chances and the possibility for severe weather – today is your lucky day!

For today, mostly cloudy with hit-and-miss showers and storms across areawide. Best bet for rain  – and severe weather – is to the east and southeast this afternoon and evening. Highs will glide into the 70s with a blustery south and southwest wind at 15 to 25mph today. We could even catch a few gusts to 35 and 40mph.

Rain chances are between 10-percent to the west and 40-percent to the southeast. If severe weather does develop this afternoon, the main threats look to be high wind and hail. For today, we can’t rule out a brief spin-up (a weak, short -lived tornado) but it isn’t very likely.

Here in Amarillo with a 20-percent chance for an afternoon storm, we’ll top out at 75 degrees.

Tomorrow, after a few morning clouds, we will be mostly sunny and cooler with highs in the 60s. A picturesque autumn day, really.

Amarillo will top out at 65 degrees.
