Amarillo work-week forecast

In short, it’ll be a warm one. Very warm. By this next weekend Amarillo’s mercury will likely be around the century mark – or above it.

But firs thing is first, for today, temperatures will again be in the upper 90s and low 100s. Here in Amarillo we’ll hit 97 degrees. A slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm to the northwest. Places like Clayton, Texline, Kenton, Keyes and even geting into Dalhart. Rain chacnes are between 10- and 20-percent.

Tomorrow, more of the same. Nearly a carbon copy. Amarillo will hit 97 degrees again. More rain chances to the northwest.

Things will finally change Wednesday.

A stationary boundary pulls up shop just to the north of the area Wednesday. This should offer the chance for a few showers and storms to sneak a little father south and east than previous days.

In fact, Wednesday places north of a linve from Shamrock to Hereford have about a 20-percent chance for a shower or storm. The severe weather threat is minimal. Main threats are straight-line winds and hail. That said, the atmosphere won’t be very conducive to severe weather development. In fact the tornado threat is effectively zero.

Amarillo will top out on Wednesday at 98 degrees.

As we head toward the weekend high pressure builds in and we’ll heat things up to over the century mark. Thursday, Friday and Saturday look to be the warmest days in the coming week.
