Below Seasonal Norms – Weekly Forecast for MS/LA/AL 12/1/24

We’re getting ready for a couple more frosty mornings and cool days with another high pressure moving in from Canada. Afterwards, we’ll see some return flow after the high pressure dissipates bringing in a chance for rain overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. With another cold front moving in, we’ll squeeze out a little bit more of that moisture flow over the weekend with overall cool weather along with it. Let’s take a look.

Overhead in the upper levels, the cold air persists as the trough brings the surface high from Canada to the southeast. With this shortwave, we’ll see below seasonal normal temperatures for the next couple of days. In the mornings, we’ll have frost and temperatures in the low 30s across the Deep South. During the day, temperatures will be in the low 60s on Monday and dip into the mid 50s on Tuesday with the front coming in.

Overnight into Wednesday, we’ll have another frosty night, but a slightly warmer day. Temperatures will reach the mid 60s during the day with milder and slightly more humid conditions. As we go into the late afternoon, we’ll see our first chance of rain for the week. Most of this looks to be on and off showers with some heavier rain in between, but the chance of thunderstorms looks to be fairly low. Overall, we’ll see up to an inch of rain by early Thursday afternoon.

Afterwards, there’s a quick turnaround as another surface high moves in on Friday. This will cool down temperatures into the mid 50s during the day and into the upper 30s at night. This front will move fairly quickly and the high will move east for some more return flow. With this, we’ll see another slight chance for rain Saturday morning into the early afternoon. These look to be fairly scattered, so not much to worry about other than a damp day. Sunday will clear these out with temperatures in the mid 60s. We’ll await another cold front near the beginning of the week after next.
