We had one lone storms rumble through the area this morning. Otherwise, things were pretty calm overnight. As we move through the day today, we may see a few more storms try to sneak our direction, but the overall risk for any meaningful storms is pretty low.
For a few slivers of our NW counties, a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather is in place. This is mainly along and north of the I-20 corridor. We could see damaging wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters. Additionally, heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches could lead to minor flooding in some spots, especially in areas with poor drainage.
We will continue to place a bit of a game of chicken with storms through Friday and Saturday. They will develop to our north and try to slide south, but likely fall apart as they attempt to crash toward the Gulf. We will hold on to a non-zero risk for rain and storms, but it will be pretty close to zero.
It’ll be hot, too. Temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s and heat index values around 100°F. This pattern of potential severe storms in the north and heat in the south will continue into Monday.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, a stronger low-pressure system moving across the Great Lakes will bring some relief, with a cold front expected to clear things out. Dew points will drop, making it feel less humid by Tuesday morning.
