Good football weather, nice weekend, cooler next week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 10/14/22

Friday night football is looking good! Temperatures around 70F to 75F at kickoff with the games ending with temps around 60F to 65F. In fact, some of you folks along the highway 84 and to the north may even be into the 50s at the end of the game.

For some of you, this might be the first “jacket weather” game. For others, you’ve been brining a blanket since the middle of September.

Other than a great night tonight and a fantastic weekend, the only real weather story is the cold front that shows up on Monday that may bring the chance for our first frost of the season.

Yes. It isn’t a good chance, but there is a shot that we have our first frost in the middle of October this year. That is about two weeks earlier than normal. Nothing too crazy, but if you have plants on the porch, or a hundred acres of blueberries, you may want to pay closer attention to the forecast than usual this weekend and into next week.

Temperature anomaly for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons

Right now, it is looking like next Tuesday and Wednesday nights temps will drop back down to around 40. I tend to lean toward “most folks will stay in the 40s” but given how dry it has been and how still we may be overnight, I can’t rule out some spots dropping into the 30s. And even fewer spots sagging past the 37F threshold.

One thing playing in favor of leaning toward cooler temperatures is some snowfall that may stick around in the Dakotas..

On piece of data that goes against it getting too cold is the physics that it was only get so cold underneath an inversion without advection (wind).

But it is still a few days out and specifics about who gets that cold and who doesn’t will have to be shaken out this weekend.

Until then, enjoy the football tonight! Enjoy the nice weekend!
