Surprise, surprise! Another Heat Advisory is in effect for SW Mississippi until 7pm CDT today. Heat indices will peak between 105F-to-110F in most Mississippi communities as the southeastern ridge holds steadfast.
As you weep or sweat, however, don’t give up hope!
If you can last the next few days of 105F heat indices, a cold front will enter the region on Monday, dropping the heat indices into a more seasonable range of 90F-to-100F.
Starting next week, high temperatures will hover around 90F which will be 5-to-10-degrees cooler compared to the rest of this week and the weekend. Of course, with a decrease in temperatures, there is an increase in rain chances, especially in the afternoon and evening. This could result in rain totals reaching .5″-to-1″ locally in SW Mississippi. Because these storms will be convective in nature, not every household will see these rain totals.
In the meantime, while we wait for the cold front to cool us down, stay cool and and continue to follow local guidelines about taking breaks when working in the heat and humidity. Also, click here to read the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
