Heat Advisory in effect till 8pm CDT, a return to near average temperatures afterwards: SW Mississippi – 6/26/22

Becoming a normality, yet another Heat Advisory is in effect for most of SW Mississippi till 8pm CDT tonight. Communities are advised that heat indices could reach 105F-to-110F due to air temperatures in the upper-90s and dewpoint temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s.

After today, the heat will finally diminish as a cold front sweeps through the region, dropping heat indices to 95F-to-100F. As the front passes through the region, winds will shift, bringing in cooler temperatures from the north.

Tomorrow’s air temperatures will be in the upper-80s as dewpoint temperatures stay in the low-70s. Additionally, afternoon and nighttime storms could occur, creating locally heavy rainfall totals that range from .2″-to-.4″.

After the cold front passes, rain chances will decrease, but air temperatures will consistently hover near 90F with heat indices ranging from 90F-to-95F. The Climate Prediction Center indicates that this cooldown will be short lived since a ridge of high pressure to the west will expand, gradually warming up SW Mississippi as winds shift to a westerly and then southwesterly origin.

Continue to stay cool tomorrow and follow local guidelines about taking breaks when working in the heat and humidity. Also, click here to read the symptoms of heat-related illnesses. Be sure to try and capitalize on near normal conditions this week if you are aiming to get yard work done because we will most likely see a warmup near Independence Day.
