High clouds and warm temperatures through weekend, more rain next week: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast

We’re under the influence of strong high pressure, which is moving in from the east. This will bring easterly winds across our area, bringing in slightly drier air. Any chance of showers this afternoon and evening will be closer to the coast. Expect some high clouds, but we’ll also see occasional breaks of sunshine throughout the day.

Temperatures will be seasonably warm, with highs in the mid-90s expected through late week. Heat indices could reach around 105 degrees, possibly leading to triple-digit temperatures over the weekend and early next week. Heat advisories are likely during this time.

This pattern should hold through the start of the weekend, but it looks like as we transition into next week, the ridge may flatten out and allow a cold front to try and sneak into the area from the north. That, mixed with some tropical moisture, should offer a better shot for rain on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Speaking of tropical moisture, the tropics may become active again as another low-pressure area forms in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, but it’s currently expected to move west-northwest or northwest, unlikely to impact our area significantly.

Beyond that, there is some indication that it will get mighty warm here later next week as a stronger ridge tried to build into the area. Still too early for specifics, but worth watching over the weekend.
