The weather this weekend will mostly be warm with only small rain chances. The highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s, but the heat index may reach the upper 90s owing to the humid air off the Gulf. For anyone heading to the beach this weekend, the weather should be very good for swimming. As always for this time of year, be mindful of the heat and wear sunscreen.

Things get a little more interesting as the work week begins. The chance for showers and thunderstorms goes up starting on Monday. A cold front is expected to move into the area on Tuesday.

The cold front will be the driving factor in the elevated thunderstorm risk on Monday and Tuesday. While it is too soon to forecast if any storms will be severe, one should still take basic precautions associated with any thunderstorm risk. Storms this time of year around the Gulf Coast tend to have a lot of cloud to ground lightning.

The temperatures cool down after Tuesday, with expected highs only in the low 80s on Wednesday. The chance for rain remains high on Wednesday and Thursday, which will help lower the temperatures.
