Hot and Humid Weekend Ahead with a Few Stray Showers – Weekend Forecast for South MS 6/22/24

We’re gearing up for a very hot weekend in South Mississippi! Temperatures are going to reach the mid and upper 90s for the next few days and the heat index will be well into the 100s. Let’s take a look at what we have in store for the next few days.

For today, we’ll see few clouds in the sky with temperatures reaching the mid 90s. Dewpoints will be in the mid 60s and will keep the heat index from reaching the low 100s, but it will still be hot outside. Today will be your best pool day as the heat won’t be overwhelming like the next few days. Overnight, the dewpoint will creep up a bit and keep us at the low 70s with only a few clouds.

Moving into Sunday, the upper level ridge will move slightly westward giving us a mix of southerly and westerly flow during the day. Humidity will increase a bit and the heat index will rise into the low 100s during the day. Our first chance of some isolated thunderstorms will be possible into the mid and late afternoon. Temperatures will only drop into the mid 70s into Monday morning.

Surface analysis for Monday from the WPC

Monday is when we’ll get a slightly more organized system of rain and thunderstorms to develop over us. The ridge I mentioned earlier will begin to weaken, allowing for some thunderstorm development in the afternoon. A stalling low pressure system over the midwest to northeastern US will slowly move south bringing a chance of scattered thunderstorms from Monday into the rest of the week. Temperatures will reach the upper 90s with heat indices reaching into the mid 100s and dropping to the mid 70s into Tuesday.

Invest AL93. Notice the broad area of rotation north of the Bay of Campeche.

I’ll do a quick look at Invest AL93. So far, this looks to have a pretty broad rotation, but looking at the models, it will begin to tighten a bit as it rides up the coastline of Mexico. From there, it looks to dissipate and bring some rain to many areas of northern Mexico by the mid-week.
