Hot & Dry! With a few isolated storms possible: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 8/21/24

Today and tonight, the main concern is dry conditions leading to heightened fire weather danger, as a strong subtropical high moves eastward. Relative humidity (RH) values will drop to near critical levels, accompanied by occasional wind gusts, prompting a limited fire danger alert. Temperatures will stay near normal today.

Tomorrow we will be slightly warmer, but still not “crazy hot” like a few weeks back.

Looking ahead, high pressure will dominate, leading to increasing heat and humidity into next week. While dry, continental air will keep fire weather concerns elevated through Thursday, conditions are expected to improve by Friday as winds shift and boundary layer moisture increases. However, the return of higher humidity and temperatures could lead to heat stress issues, with highs reaching the upper 90s and apparent temperatures exceeding 105°F.

Rain chances will remain low, with isolated showers or brief storms possible in southern areas starting this weekend. However, significant rainfall is unlikely, and any chances for widespread rain are expected to stay below normal through early next week.
