Hot, humid, with only a few storms to help: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 6/13/22

It will be warm today. All of the local National Weather Service offices have issued Heat Advisories today. Heat Index values will be up over 105F and could approach 110F for some. And a few spots may even tag 115F!

But while it is pretty hot, this isn’t even record-breaking stuff. Looking back at the All-Time record heat for the Southern MS/AL/LA region, the official hottest temps have the actual mercury (not the Heat Index) up around 105F.

While many of these are set in July and August, there are a few in June and even one of the Top 10 record high temperatures was set in May! The hottest day ever in the area was set on June 14th (tomorrow) back in 1963.

As far as June heat is concerned, every To 10 warmest day included actual temperatures in the 100s. And all of the Top 10 warmest days were either in 1963, 2009, or 2011.

For the next few days, highs will be in the 90s with Heat Index values around 105F to 110F, but that falls well short of the record highs you see above. In fact, temperatures the next few days will only be about 4F to 7F above-average.

Average Highs this time of year – 90F
Average Lows this time of year – 70F

So while, it will be quite warm, this isn’t terribly rare or out of the ordinary. Just a good ole fashion “Hot” few days. And I do mean “few days” as this pattern looks to hold into next week.

Like I always say, though, these patterns where it gets really warm along the central Gulf Coast do a good job at keeping the tropical riff-raff away from the area. So, sure, it’s hot. But hey, not hurricanes coming this way for the next few days either. And that’s good!
