Mild, humid, a bit foggy this week, storms by Sunday: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 12/5/22

A pretty ‘blah’ weather pattern this week with mild temperatures no “impactful” weather through Saturday. That is the good news. The bad news is that it won’t be fully sunny. Instead, we will have to deal with morning fog, cloudy skies and the occasional chance for drizzle, light rain and some rumbles of thunder.

Manageable! Better than tornadoes! But, certainly not “nice” weather if you like sunshine and crisp Winter air.

Looking at the temperature anomalies by midweek, you can see that we will be parked under some seasonal warmth with highs about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than normal. While all of the cold air from Canada continues to slip by to the north and push into the Northeast.

We won’t shake the warmth until we get through Sunday and into Monday of next week. That is when cooler air behind the next system will push into the area.

Ahead of that push of cooler air, we will likely see some showers and storms. And I think severe weather will be another possibility.

How bad? Unknown at this point. But given how much Gulf air we are going to park over the area in the coming days, I don’t think we can rule it out. The bigger question we need to ask (and find out) is how potent will the cold air be behind this system? And how far north with the secondary warm front push?

Those two questions will likely determine the severe weather potential and those are simply unknowable at this point.
