We’re starting off this morning somewhat cool with some upper level clouds across the area. A shortwave low pressure zone is moving in from the central Plains which will start to shift winds to the southeast and a high pressure zone in the northeast keeping the low slightly at bay, at least for much of us closer to the coastline. With those winds pulling in, it will keep conditions much milder across much of the Gulf Coast and further north for the weekend and on Monday.
Looking at the satellite imagery above, you can see the center of the closed low around Kansas. While the front itself is pulling moisture from the Gulf, the front will begin to stall out which limits much of the inflow for the coastline. The warm front is further into the central Midwest and with it stalling, most of the moisture and rain will stay to our north and west, so areas of Louisiana, Arkansas, northwestern and northern Mississippi will see the majority of the rain whereas we’ll only see some isolated showers and storms over the next few days.
Saturday will be partly cloudy during the day and clouds will increase as the day progresses. A isolated shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out during the afternoon. Winds will pull from the southeast and temperatures will reach the mid to upper 60s across the area. Conditions will be fairly mild and humid.
Saturday night into Sunday morning will be our main chance of rain and this will be in the early morning hours to after sunrise. Afterwards, the rain will shift north towards the I-20 corridor and remain there for the rest of the day with only some isolated showers south of the interstate. In the early morning, temperatures will only reach the upper 50s and top out in the mid to upper 60s during the day. Conditions will be cloudy for most of the day with south winds.
Overnight into Monday, the clouds will hang around and keep the low to the mid to upper 50s. The rain chances are pretty much gone, but we’ll still have southerly inflow keeping us mild and somewhat humid during the day. Overnight, temperatures will fall into the mid 50s with the clouds beginning to wane a bit.
