Morning storms, afternoon sun, then more rain possible Saturday: Southern MS/AL/LA Weather Forecast – 4/27/23

We have two rogue storms this morning (as of this writing) that are riding along and just behind the warm front that is lifting north. These storms are packing some very large hail and a good bit of lightning, too.

This is the first or two rounds of storms today. The second round will build into the area as we move through the mid-morning hours and then clear out into the afternoon. The severe weather risk as we move through the morning will persist, but does not include the risk for strong tornadoes at this time.

Right now we are more concerned about heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind and hail.

Once we get through the storms this morning, we may see another few isolated storms try to fire up this evening. These are looking rather sparse, but if you get caught under one, it will offer some brief heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind and small hail.

Then we are done for a few days and things calm down for about 24 hours before the next round of rain moves through on Saturday. But there is still some question about just how much of an impact that next system will have on our area.

Beyond that, things calm down as we move through most of next week.

  1. Located about 8 miles west of Ellisville. The storm you’re showing on the radar image at 4:26 AM this morning gave ‘us’ pea size hail (sometime between 5:15 and 5:30) and my daughter, who lives on Hwy 84W, just west of Laurel, marble sized hail.
