The Climate Prediction Center released their seasonal prediction today, and to noone’s suprise it included an above-average forecast.
The official prediction is: Above-normal Atlantic hurricane season. The CPC calls for 13 to 20 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher) is expected.
Forecasters predict a 60-percent chance of an above-normal season, a 30-percent chance of a near-normal season, and a 10-percent chance of a below-normal season.

A video from NOAA:
The First named storm of the season may develop during the next five days given what the National Hurricane Center is monitoring as of this morning. If it does get a name, it will be Ana.

Hoping this won’t be a year where, if a thunderstorm develops over the Atlantic, it gets a name. Not sure what the ‘end-game’ is here with the NHC.
