Oh, Young Waker of the Winds… – A forecast for July 27 – August 3

I haven’t really expressed too much of my personality in these forecast blogs as of late, but I’ll let a bit of my nerdy side come out today since I’m rolling solo. This front coming in and the shifting winds that come along with the before, during, and after show what kind of influences it takes in different levels of the atmosphere for a system to be driven. Upper level forcing, inflow from the Gulf of Mexico combining with forces from a drier source really bring along a strong enough system to make some rain come down on us in the next few days. What we’re getting around the time Tuesday and Wednesday comes along is a shortwave trough that dips down far enough to take us out of the dry spell we’ve experienced this past week and winds will come in fast enough to push up some clouds and make them rain on us.

Lately, I’ve been on a binge playing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker with my friends and enjoying every bit of it, hence where I got the title. The Wind Waker follows Link as he sails across flooded Hyrule on a sailboat using magic items (and of course the Master Sword) to defeat Ganon. The most important item in the game to get around is a magic baton called the Wind Waker. It changes the direction of the wind so Link can sail across the seas looking for the Triforce, going to different temples and meeting all kinds of people along the way. With all of that on my mind in the past week while avoiding the outdoors because of the heat, I thought it might be a good title because I saw how much the wind was changing in direction as that shortwave is going to come through. Anyway, enough with my nerdy and nostalgic side, on with the forecast!

It’ll be hot and still pretty dry for tonight as we’ll still be in the high 80’s before sunset and there’s not much relief in sight even as the ground cools. We have a low of 74 tonight with few clouds.

We’ll be a little warmer than our low by 7 in the morning with a few clouds in the sky.

We’re gonna warm up into the mid-80’s by the time 10 o’clock comes around, so if you’re out mowing or doing something active outside, I’d recommend doing it a little earlier so the sun’s not beating down on you.

During lunch time, we’re going break 90 by 1 o’clock and despite the lack of humidity we’ve seen, it’s still going to be miserable outside.

At 4, we’ll reach our high of 94 and I’m sure the heat index will tell you how bad it is when you can see all those heat waves on the road outside. There may be a slight chance of a thunderstorm, but it most likely will be isolated to a few areas.

By 7, we’ll bring it down to the high 80’s, but we’re still going to feel the heat for a while as we go into the night.

On Sunday, there’s going to be some low level clouds developing through the day that could bring a possible afternoon rain shower, but otherwise it’s another hot summer day in the Pinebelt. High of 93 and a low of 74.

Monday is when the shortwave trough brings in more developing clouds and we’ll see partly to mostly cloudy skies all day with a 40% chance of rain. High of 91, low of 73 and South winds at 5-10 mph.

Tuesday is when the rain is going to pour down on us through most of the day. I’m calling for a 50% chance with a high of 91 and a low of 73. Winds coming from the South at 5-10 mph.

The rain clears out by Wednesday morning as the trough passes over us leaving us with some leftover clouds. High of 92, low of 71 and winds coming from the South at 5-10 mph.

On Thursday, there’s a pretty good chance of afternoon showers and partly cloudy skies. High of 91, low of 72, and winds coming from the Southeast at 5-10 mph.

Finally, Friday also has a chance of afternoon showers with a little bit of Gulf influence with a high of 91, low of 72 and winds coming from the Southeast at 5-10 mph.

Y’all have a good weekend and may Hylia smile upon you.
