Quite the night, last night, for some folks near Brookhaven! There were about five or six outflow boundaires that all converged, at slightly different times, in the area and it looks like there was enough low-level spin to squeeze out a brief tornado.
Thankfully, so far, I haven’t heard any reports of injuries and most of the damage was also “minor” but a good reminder that even in the summer these – very brief – tornadoes are possible with very little warning at all.
It looks like the chance for rain will stick around for a few days. The extra clouds and occasional showers will also help to limit temperatures in the afternoon. So, perhaps, everyone’s AC can catch a bit of a break.
Storms will be hit and miss, mainly in the afternoon and evening. But a few folks may pick up some rain and hear some thunder overnight and in the morning. Severe weather is not anticipated. The tornado threat remains very low (but as we saw last night, not zero)
Thankfully, it doesn’t look like flooding rains are in the forecast, either. Instead just tropical showers here and there. Rainfall totals between today and Thursday morning don’t look overly impressive, but they will help gardens and yards to green up.
This is all related to a leftover front and a potential tropical system in the Gulf. The system itself doesn’t have a good chance to get organized and developed. But what it will do is open the door for the rains to continue.
There are two other areas the NHC is monitoring. Neither pose any immediate threat to the Gulf or Gulf Coast.
