Persistent heat and small chances for rain through the week: Coastal LA/MS/AL Weather Forecast – 6/21/22

Tropical-like heat and moisture continue to be the dominating presence across the gulf coast as this high pressure still stayed anchored over the southeast US. Heat indices look to regularly be in the upper 90s and low 100s through the week. Unfortunately, the chances for rain will remain marginal until possibly an opportunity for greater chances arises this weekend into early next week.

A surface trough will be situated over the area through Wednesday, bringing the potential for brief showers and thunderstorms to the area. Relatively high PW (Precipitable Water) values, that is if you squeeze all of the water out of the atmosphere is how much rainfall one could expect to receive, up to 2 inches signals the possibility for potentially localized heavy rainfall with any storm that is able to form.

Otherwise for the short term, high humidity and heat is the prevailing story. Heat indices look to reach the upper 90s and low 100s for the rest of the week and into the weekend. While not the highest heat indices have ever been, it still can pose a risk to those outdoors sensitive to heat.

By the weekend, we are monitoring two potential fronts slated to move through the region. On Saturday, a dissipating cold front associated with a surface low moving off the coast of Georgia may provide enough lift for the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the coast. This front will stall over the area on Sunday and may provide another round of showers and thunderstorms. Not much change in temperature will be noted, as daytime highs Saturday and Sunday look to reach the mid 90s to low 100s.

On Monday, a more robust cold front will enter in from the northwest, being associated with the upper-level low traversing its way through Canada. This front will bring a greater and more widespread chance for showers and thunderstorms. The effects of the front will be felt once it moves through, with temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s and drier conditions, leading to minimally higher heat indices.
